Social skills group

At NeuroNest, our Social Skills Groups are led by a team of skilled professionals, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, mental health practitioners, and other specialists. These sessions are supported by educators and trained staff who follow best practices for working with children with autism. We believe that learning is most effective through positive, real-life experiences, and our programs provide a safe, inclusive environment where children can actively engage and practice essential social skills.

To support success and independence, we offer a variety of structured tools tailored to meet each child’s unique needs:

  • A well-organized physical environment to minimize distractions and enhance focus
  • Visual schedules to promote clarity and predictability
  • Visual aids to facilitate communication and social participation
  • Incorporation of personal interests and relevant themes to increase engagement
  • Flexibility to accommodate different processing times and perspectives
  • Opportunities for children to make choices, empowering them to take an active role in their learning
  • Our programs cater to a wide range of abilities, interests, and age groups to ensure that each child’s needs are met.

Through participation in our groups, children will build a broad range of skills, such as:

  • Developing positive peer relationships and engaging in reciprocal play
  • Mastering functional skills in sports, coordination, and teamwork
  • Strengthening problem-solving abilities
  • Gaining independence through life skills
  • Improving social judgment and decision-making
  • Regulating body movements and behavior
  • Understanding, expressing, and managing emotions
  • Building self-esteem and confidence in social situations

Teaching social skills is an evolving process. At NeuroNest, we continuously adjust our approach to meet the changing needs of our participants. Our group-based programs are designed to improve communication and social interaction abilities for children, teens, and young adults.

**Personalized Social Group Plans**

Each child’s progress is closely monitored by a licensed clinician, who sets individualized goals focused on communication, emotional regulation, engagement, and social interaction. Weekly assessments track progress, and interventions are adjusted as needed to support growth.

At the end of the program, we provide Individual Progress Reports, which offer detailed insights into each child’s achievements. These reports are useful for discussing strengths and needs, especially during school IEP meetings, helping to inform future planning and support. Our goal is to ensure that every child leaves our program with enhanced social skills, greater confidence, and a solid foundation for independent living.
